Euronews - Julian Assange may leave the Ecuadorian embassy in London and surrender to police if the United Nations rules against him.

The UN is due to decide whether the Wikileaks founder might be allowed to travel from the embassy to Ecuador.

The country’s foreign minister Ricardo Patino told reporters that the matter is probably now in the hands of Swedish prosecutors and a UK legal team.

“They [United Nations] are about to hand down that decision, or take that decision, or, something else I have heard, is that they may have handed it [decision] to the countries [Sweden and UK] involved and will make it public in a few days. That is surely why there is so many expectations.”

Assange is facing sexual assault charges in Sweden. He took refuge in the embassy in 2012 to avoid possible extradition.

He fears Sweden would extradite him to the US where he could be put on trial over leaking classified government information.
